2011 Blue Gala Fundraising Event
My Dear Sisters,
Our 2011 Reunion Weekend was a fun-filled extravaganza where everyone had a good time. A BIG thank you to our QC sisters, their friends, families, husbands and guests who came and generously supported us from far and near. We had people from Lagos, Abuja, Calabar and Ibadan in Nigeria. We also had a delegation from London and Ireland as well as members from all over the US. Thank you for
coming, thank you for supporting us! It transported us back to QC and everyone was on the dance floor until 2am.
Sefi Atta kicked it off on Friday night with a Meet and Greet session where she signed copies of her book. We all mingled and reconnected with one another.
The Business Meeting held on Saturday Morning was well attended. Dr. Winnie Ndule, 1972 set, from Houston, TX, was our speaker. She is the President and Founder of Carad Logistics, and spoke about the secrets of her success. She emphasized surrounding ourselves with positive support systems and members that add value to our lifestyles.
The election committee recommended we postpone elections until October 2011 and the deadline for submission of all applications for prospective candidates is August 31, 2011. Our members agreed with the election committee and this vote was passed and adopted.
Our April 2011 Financial report was read by Fatima Alfa and adopted by the board.
Our next reunion is scheduled for Atlanta, GA, for the weekend of Friday May 24, 2013 through Sunday May 26, 2013. Further details will be announced.
The fundraising committee will move forward with the refurbishment of the computer lab at Queens College and the proposed budget is $150,000.
At the Gala Dinner on Saturday Night, we are pleased to announce that we raised $10,930 in the form of cash and pledge donations.
Our 2 past principals: Mrs. Chukwuma and Mrs. Kafaru shared their pearls of wisdom. The MC Jimmy was so entertaining that he left everyone in stitches. The DJ was on point as he played oldies, goodies and current dance hits. The night ended with Class set photos from 1965 through to 2002.
Our 1st keynote speaker, Beatrice Hamza Bassey Esq., Headgirl 1988, is a Partner at Hughes, Hubbard & Reed LLP in New York. She told us to give back to our school as it is our pedigree. Mrs. Juliana Oyegun Esq., 1973 set, is the Chief Diversity Officer at the World Bank. As our 2nd keynote speaker spoke about connecting and participating in our world by engaging in grass roots efforts, where we can make a difference one person at a time. The board members were introduced and awards given to the 2011 Reunion Planning Committee members: Funlayo Alabi, Nkechi Chamberlain, Funke Fasalojo, Dami Kehinde, Bukie Shabiolegbe, Yewande Sogie-Thomas, Yinka Taiwo, Fatima Alfa, Seyi Banwo and Enitan Adebonojo.
The winner of the 2011 Person of the year was Seyi Banwo CPA, our Treasurer, for her outstanding efforts and contributions to our organization to ensure transparency in our financial reporting. Enitan Adebonojo, our 2011 Reunion Chairperson, was the 2011 Honoree of the year as she was indeed the success behind this weekend.
Dr. and Mrs. Alfa hosted us on Sunday with a BBQ at their Bowie, MD, home where Dr. Bode Adebambo chaired our Meet the Doctors session. The following doctors were active participants in the discussion: Dr. Egbe Dawudo, Dr. Yemisi Olubi and Dr. Ronke Dosunmu and Dr. Ngozi Solagbade, Dr. Toyin Magbagbeola and Dr. Linda Odenigbo imparted their expertise and knowledge on living a healthy
lifestyle.
I am deeply moved and touched by all and want to thank you again for your support. Thank you to yourfamilies, husbands, children, sisters, brothers, parents, and friends that supported us through cash and kind - paying to come to the event, donating, and supporting the OGQCs as they worked tirelessly to make it a success. Many thanks to our vendors.
